What We Do

Safe spaces are ‘drop in’ style spaces that offer a non-clinical alternative to emergency departments for people experiencing emotional distress or suicidal crisis. Safe spaces provide warm, welcoming environments free from stigma where people can reduce their distress and choose to speak with volunteers who have their own lived experience of suicidal crisis, caring for a loved one who has experienced thoughts of suicide, or of being bereaved by suicide.

Perspectives of hope come from shared experience and people can thrive when accessing this meaningful peer support with the opportunity to speak openly about suicide finding a connection through mutual understanding in a time of crisis.

Community-led Safe Spaces are a group of people empowered and united to deliver safe spaces in a location which is open to benefit the wider community. Community-led Safe Spaces are co-developed by local communities and Roses in the Ocean who are Australia's national lived experience of suicide organisation with commitment to responding to the needs of the local population and specific demographics impacted by suicide, overcoming geographical challenges, and providing an essential physical space.
